Half Day Seminar on Catholic Social Teaching in the Light of Gaudium et Spes held on 14th May 2016

The Parish has now completed its programme on the principal documents of the Second Vatican Council with a half day seminar on arguably the most significant of the Council documents, Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope), its relevance for and impact on Catholic Social Teaching today. The talk was led and facilitated by Professor John Loughlin and complemented the talk given by Dr Martin Poulsom in the autumn of 2015. It focussed on how to react to the specific questions which the modern world now faces

On 20th October 2015 the Parish held the last of a series of twelve discussion group meetings on the theme of "Catholicism", centred around extracts from the award-winning series of that name by the American priest and theologian, Fr Robert Barron. The series looked at a combination of theological questions (the nature and attributes of God, Christ and the Trinity) as well as issues of Church dogma and devotion. Depending on demand this series may be repeated at a later date

Copies of the book Catholicism: a Journey to the Heart of the Faith are available in the Abbey Bookshop, price £17.99

All the talks and discussions have drawn people not only from our own Parish but also from beyond, including a number of non-Catholics (and non-Christians). All our talks are open to all, and all are welcome
